From St Ives they came… from Poole, Bath, villages across seven counties. A half-excited half-apprehensive crew of dreamers caught up in the movement of God’s Spirit. Preparing to set off on a learning journey to an unknown destination.
Less poetically I could tell you this was the induction day for Cohort 3 of the CMS Certificate in Pioneer Mission in the south west of England. For the first time three separate Dioceses were combining to deliver the course. But that wouldn’t really capture what was happening in the kingdom of God.
God is stretching the walls of our tent… the rumpus reverberates abroad. The strong undertow of the Holy Spirit is drawing people from further afield, from more diverse contexts, animated by different visions into this place of slow transformation.
Yesterday we all came together to look each other in the eyes, recognise that what comes of this journey will be the product of all of us, that there will be moments of transfiguration because this unique combination of people has committed themselves to this unique enterprise at this point in time under God, for the sake of those God is seeking. The anticipation comes from not knowing when or how those moments of transfiguration will occur, or what form they will take.
